Multi Screen Media launches sports channel Six

The channel promises to provide a mix of entertainment and sports. Its main property at present is IPL

BestMediaInfo Bureau | Delhi | April 9, 2012

publive-imageMulti Screen Media (MSM) has launched Six, a sports entertainment channel, on April 7, 2012. This is the sixth channel in the MSM bouquet. Six promises to be a premier and vibrant offering showcasing the best in the world of sport in every category along with related Indian leagues. The channel promises to stand out from the existing sports channels by targeting young India and providing a mix of entertainment and sports that appeals to both men and women alike.

MSM was banking heavily on bagging the BCCI telecast to make the sports channel a strong player in the sports genre right from its launch. However, its plans awry when Star India walked away with the prized BCCI rights for a hefty bid of Rs 3,851 crore.

MSM's main sports property at present is the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). It also has rights for New Zealand cricket, FA Cup and NBA. IPL matches are currently aired on Max while the football and basketball matches are telecast on Pix. It is most likely that all these properties will move to Six.

The channel will include sports such as mixed martial arts, basketball, football and badminton. Six will bring “Extraaa” something to each and every property.

Man Jit Singh, CEO, MSM, said, “We are excited to launch our new sports entertainment channel Six. The channel will launch with the key driver property being UFC Mixed Martial Arts and the best of the first four seasons of DLF IPL. This latest offering from our bouquet reiterates our commitment to bring the best in every genre to young audiences. Six is aimed at the informed and empowered youth who are enthusiastic to adopt new sports. We are confident that Six will stand out by fulfilling its promise to cater to the twin passions of the country – sports and entertainment.”

NP Singh, COO, MSM, said, "Six will skew younger catering to India's appetite for Indian and the counterpart international sports leagues. Six will provide a platform for Indian athletes to showcase their talent and fuel India's aspirations to excel globally. We will invest in new sports... sports that the new-age 'India on the move' youth want to watch and follow."
