publive-imageFirstpost.com, India's leading news and views portal launched Live Debates on Gujarat 2012 with a discussion on “Is Gujarat India? Does India want to be Gujarat?”.

The participants of the debate were, R. Jagannathan, Editor-in-chief, Firstpost.com, Rajdeep Sardesai – Editor in Chief,  IBN 18 Network, Aakar Patel – Columnist, Firstpost.com, Sandip Roy -  Editor, Firstpost.com.

Firstpost used “Google Hangout” to engage with a group of Gujarat experts and Editorial staff to discuss various views on the importance of the Gujarat election. As a second step to participation that has been largely through text and social, Firstpost is using video to engage its readers with its editorial views. Happening in real-time, this is the ideal way to get readers involved in helping shape the conversation and move the digital editorial one-step closer to the audience. Users could watch, comment, follow the liveblog and join the live debate.

The next three debates will include, local editors from Gujarat, well-known personalities and the Firstpost editorial team. The debates will be from 4th – 6th Dec at 1630 hrs. Users can log in to http://www.firstpost.com/live-debate to discuss their points of view with the panellists across a range of Gujarat arguments – politics, business and society.

Speaking on the launch of the Firstpost live debates, Durga Raghunath, VP-Products and Exec News Producer, Firstpost.com said “We wanted to bring our Editors and their views closer to our audience and in real time.
