Leo Burnett Mumbai appoints Kapil Sawant as ECD

Sawant joins the agency from Contract Mumbai where he was Sr. Vice President and Sr. Creative Direcor

It's still buzzing. After a burst of promotions and recruitment of new creative talent, Leo Burnett has now added Kapil Sawant, hitherto, Sr. VP / Sr. CD at Contract Mumbai to its League of Super Creatives. Sawant will join as an ECD in Mumbai. He will work closely with 'Pops' K. V. Sridhar (CCO Leo Burnett India Subcontinent) and Nitesh Tiwari (CCO Leo Burnett India). His chief responsibility will be managing the McDonald's account and the large creative teams that work on it - in Mumbai and Delhi.

A Graduate from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Sawant's 15 year advertising journey brought him in touch with brands like the UB Group, BPL, HDFC Bank, Perfetti, Pidilite, DNA, Shoppers Stop, Cadbury Celebrations, Cadbury Eclairs, Asian Paints, Morphy Richards and Edelweiss Financial Services.

After spending his cub years in small ad agencies and design firms, his quest to become a well-rounded adman took him to Euro RSCG, O&M and then to Contract Advertising where he joined as Creative Director and moved up to become Senior Creative Director and Senior Vice President.

His passion for filmmaking and writing were evident in the stellar work he produced for clients like Shoppers Stop and Cadbury. He also wrote and directed several Internet films for Shopper's Stop, Cadbury Celebrations and Ask Me. In his words, “I love working on human insights and the best part about advertising is, it gives you a great opportunity to understand people's lives, their emotions, their relationships… and that’s fantastic”

Sawant has also been a familiar face at the national and international creative awards shows. The Cadbury Celebrations Diwali Campaign won many awards in the Integrated Campaign category at the ABBYs, Effies, Mirchi Kaan etc. Other award-winning pieces of work include Shoppers Stop ‘Start something new’ (brand campaign for 2008 and 2010), Morphy Richards Juicer film (gold at Spikes), ‘Ask me number’  films which were awarded at ABBYs 2011 and Cadbury Eclairs ‘Meetha Bomb’ campaign.

Ask about his winning streak and you will get a humble reply, “ I would like to give equal credit to all my clients for all the good work and the awards I have won for them”
