Star Plus extends its two top-running primetime fiction shows to six days a week; KBC returns as weekend topper in Week 40

publive-imageWeek 40 (September 30 - October 6) of TAM 2012 saw a surprising experiment with primetime programming in the 9-10 PM time band on Star Plus. For the first time, the channel has extended its two top-running fiction shows – 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' and 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' – to six days a week. The step has been taken to prepare the channel to fight with Colors' big ticket reality show 'Bigg Boss' which runs seven days a week from 9 PM to 10 PM.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers, in weekday shows, Star Plus is back with five shows in the top 10 club while Colors and Zee TV managed to get two shows each. Sony Entertainment Television continues its presence in the top 10 club with 'Bade Achche Lagte Hain'.

Among weekend shows, Sony has shown an impressive improvement where KBC has again become the weekend leader and its crime shows 'CID' and 'Crime Patrol' have also bounced back. Zee TV's iconic singing reality show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' has averaged 1.9 TVR after opening at 2.5 TVR.

Weekday shows

'Diya Aur Baati Hum' on Star Plus witnessed a sharp decline this week; however, the show remained the chart topper, fetching an average TVR of 4.9 in Week 40 (last week 6.7).

Star Plus' other fiction show 'Saathiya' climbed two positions to replace Balika Vadhu as the No. 2 weekday programme. It fetched an average TVR of 3.9 (last week 3.6).

Colors' 'Balika Vadhu' has slipped at No. 3 with an average TVR of 3.6 (last week 4.1).

Sony's flagship fiction show 'Bade Achche Lagte Hain' has also slipped one position to No. 4. The show garnered an average of 3.3 TVR (last week 3.7).

Star Plus' third show in top 5 was 'Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon'. The show garnered an average TVR of 3.2 (last week 3.0).

Zee TV celebrated 'Rishton ka Happy Birthday' on Tuesday, October 2, which contributed to the channel's growth. The channel's two shows, 'Pavitra Rishta' and 'Punarvivah', came in at No. 6 & 7 with an average TVR of 3.1.

'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' on Star Plus has slipped to No. 8. The show has recorded an average rating of 3.0 TVR (last week 3.4).

Colors' 'Sasural Simar Ka' is at No. 9 with an average of 2.9 TVR (last week 3.3).

'Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai' was Star Plus' fifth fiction in the top 10 club this week. The show averaged at 2.8 TVR (last week 2.6).

Weekend toppers

KBC has returned as the weekend topper in Week 40. The show has fetched an average of 3.4 TVR (last week 2.9).

Colors' India's Got Talent remained at No. 2 with an improved average of 3.3 TVR (last week 3.1).

Sony's crime show CID has recorded an average TVR of 3.0 (last week 2.8).

Sony's other crime show, Crime Patrol, fetched 2.7 TVR this week (last week 2.5).

Zee TV's flagship singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has recorded an average TVR of 1.9 in the second week after its launch. The show had opened at 2.5 TVR.

Fear Files on Zee TV has averaged at 1.9 TVR this week (last week 2.0).

Star Plus' crime fiction Arjun has fetched average ratings of 1.5 TVR (last week 1.6).

Zee TV's Ramayan fetched 1.2 TVR this week (last week 1.2).
