publive-imageTimes Red Cell has launched fifth edition of IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd. presents Times Green Ganesha (TGG) powered by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Times Red Cell developed this environment friendly concept 5 years ago using the reach of The Times of India to educate the masses on the importance of celebrating this festival in an eco friendly manner. In its fifth year this initiative has grown bigger with an enhanced geographical footprint and larger participation from people from all walks of life. Besides Mumbai and Pune, new cities like Nashik,Aurangabad,NagpurandKolhapurare included in the TGG campaign for the first time. Maharashtra Times is the print partner and 9XM is the music channel partner for this initiative.

Actress Rani Mukherjee launched the fifth edition of TGG atSophiaCollegeduring Kaleidoscope 2012 in presence of Sachin Ahir, Hon'ble State Minister Environment, Govt. of Maharashtra, Valsa Nair Singh, Secretary, Environment, Government of Maharashtra.

This year TGG has launched Times Green Ganesha Ambassador an initiative for the youth to be the custodians of environment and take efforts to ensure a green future. TGG aspires to be a movement giving education and spreading awareness about the impact of our lifestyle on the delicate eco system. As part of the initiative, TGG has conducted Ganesha idol making workshops in schools and colleges and educated more than 1500 students about the negative impact of Plaster Of Paris idols and non-biodegradable products on environment.

Mhaiskar Chairman & Managing Director from IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd. sent his best wishes for the launch of Times Green Ganesha and said, “The toxic waste from thermocol, plastic pandals as well as other decoration materials kills plant and animal life in the water bodies. Celebrating eco-friendly Ganesh festival enables you to celebrate festival grandly without harming environment and other living beings.”

In addition to creating awareness and education, Times Green Ganesha will recognize and reward eco friendly measures undertaken by Individual households, Societies and Ganesh Mandals and encourages them to participate in the TGG award contest. Times Green Ganesha is a movement that has become bigger with the support from various entities such as Brihan Mumbai Sarvajanik Samanway Samiti, National Service Scheme (NSS), JJ School of Arts, Envirovigil and various such associations working in this field.
