publive-imageIndian mythology stresses the need for recitation of the name of Lord Ganesha before starting any work. With a prayer on its lips, ABP Majha, the leading Marathi news channel, has kicked off the largest Ganeshotsav celebrations, Bappa Majha, from September 19, 2012.

Shivaji, the great Maratha ruler, worshipped Lord Ganesha to promote a sense of nationalism amongst his people. Later it was Lokmanya Tilak, who revived the tradition as he felt this was the ideal way to get the cry for freedom right across all communities and boundaries. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the birthday of Lord Ganeshs, the God of wisdom and prosperity, on the fourth day of the moon's bright fortnight, or period from new moon in the lunar month of Bhadrapada.

ABP Majha's Ganeshotsav – Bappa Majha - will capture the fervour of the festival across Maharashtra. There would be regular highlights, updates and pandal coverage throughtout the 15-day festival. To increase viewer interactivity and add to the spirit of the festive occasion, ABP Majha has instituted a contest called 'Gharguti Ganpati Spardha' which is a competition on the best Ganesha idols kept at home. The Gharguti Ganpati film takes you on a conducted tour of the graphical depictions of Lord Ganesha in his varied avatars.

There will be a winner announced every day at 7.30 PM from September 19 to September 29. The winners will win a once in a lifetime opportunity to undertake an  Ashtvinayak Yatra with Adesh Bandekar, a prominent Maharashtrian celebrity. He rose to fame with the popular serial 'Home Minister' and captured the hearts of the Marathi Manoos.

ABP Majha has specially developed a user-friendly microsite for viewers: www.abpmajha.in/ghargutiganpati. Participants must upload a picture of Lord Ganesha in their homes and provide their basic contact details. The site provides useful information on the significance of the eight temples of the Yatra and the Ganesha Aarti.

Some other highlights of ABP's 'Bappa Majha' are:

·         Morya Morya: A segment covering the latest trends this season for decoration

·         Ghe Bharari: Women-centric segment covering festive recipes, fashion tips, etc.

·         Bappa Majha: Extensive coverage of pandals across Maharashtra

·         Dhen ta Dhen: Coverage of festive celebrations from celebrity homes

·         Mahapandal: War of the pandals to win the Mahapandal title

·         Visarjan: Capture the grandeur of the 'Visarjan' and bring it to the TV screen

There will also be three promo films of Bappa Majha which will run on ABP Majha. A complete 360-degree activation and on-air promotion is planned for the campaign.
