Cannes Lions 2012: Indian metal tally halts at 14

A Gold and a Bronze Lions on the final day improves the final tally but it was still far from last year’s haul of 24 Lions

The largest and most prestigious global international annual awards for creative advertising and communications, the 59th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, concluded on Saturday, June 23, 2012, with Indian agencies adding a Gold and a Bronze Lion to take its medal tally at 14. However, this year was perhaps a comparatively bad year for India at Cannes in comparison to last year’s medal tally of 24 and 17 in 2010. Still, winning three Gold Lions every year for the last three years should be some reason for a feel good factor for India’s ad fraternity.

The medals this year include 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 8 Bronze Lions that have come from 90 shortlists across various categories. India has not been able to win any medal in Film, PR, Promo & Activation, Creative Effectiveness, Cyber, Mobile, Titanium & Integrated categories.

    cannes notplace? why sweat to death over this ? it may simply be dawning on developing nations such as India that the true job of great advertising is not to win awards, cannes is not the place for us ... perhaps a BRICanneS, can we? and no PR AWARDS, because the world may have whispered into our kaan that the task of good PR is to build good, if not perfect relations,not film PRetty peektures !
