The Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AFAA) held its first executive committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur on May 22, 2012. Following its new mandate the Executive Committee of AFAA has planned out a slew of initiatives that would be rolled out in the months ahead.

The first one is a skills reorientation initiative that would be held in September in Kuala Lumpur where young professionals would be exposed to a programme that has been carefully crafted keeping in mind the needs of the profession.

The Advertising Council of India (ACI), which represents India on the AFAA International Council, would be setting in motion a process to send three young professionals representing advertising, media and marketing respectively to attend this programme, informed Pradeep Guha, newly elected Chairman of AFAA. Guha added, “There was a sense of purpose and urgency at the meeting.”

There would be a master class conducted by senior professionals with 30 students from countries all over Asia. This would provide a unique cross-cultural flavor to the programme which would benefit the participants enormously.

Founded in 1978, AFAA has representations in 15 Asian nations (Japan, Korea, Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan and UAE). Its primary objectives are to unify all Asian associations involved in the various aspects of advertising and upgrade the standards, ethics and practices of advertising and to bring about a meaningful contribution from advertising activities to both regional and national socio-economic development. AdAsia (biennially), Adfest (annually) and the Asia Pacific Media Forum (biennially) are held under its auspices.
