It's worth 'donating' money for Vicky Donor

How do you feel when you donate blood? You feel good right. In fact your friends and family are quite proud of you. But what happens when you donate your SPERM or become a sperm donor? Siyapaa! In local Punjabi language. Vicky Donor is about dealing with that siyapaa. And the way director Shoojit Sircar and actor Ayushman Khurana dealt with it is commendable. The only issue is that they became bit preachy towards the end. Suddenly sperm donation was seen as social service. I'm not questing sperm donation. It's a personal choice. One usually does it for money. But calling it a social service is taking it a bit too far. Or may be that's the way to get to our sensibilities. The best way to deal with this social taboo. May be.

Vicky Donor is about Vicky Arora. A 'funjabi' living in the refugee colony of Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. One day he's contacted by Dr. Chadha – the owner of Infertility clinic in Darya Ganj, Delhi to become a sperm donor. After desperate attempts by him, Vicky finally agrees to it but all hell break loose when he falls in love, marries and is about to start a family.

Vicky Donor touches our sensibilities in many ways. Delhi as a backdrop adds so much character to the film. The city in fact outlines the film beautifully.

The absurdities of becoming a sperm donor and the Punjoo and Bong alliance are one laugh riot. Kudos to the director and the team of writers for taking up such issues sensibly and delicately. In no way you'll find cross culture remarks derogatory or hurting people sentiments.

Vicky Donor is right mix of writing and performances. There are certain plots in the screenplay which are bold but its execution is humorous. Performance wise all characters in the film fit the bill to the tee. Be it Vicky's Daadimaa, Dr. Chadha, his assistant, Maa, Tauji, Padosi or Ashimaa's Dad or Pishi, every actor performance adds so much value to the film.

Ayushman Khurana however, is one big bundle of talent. Picture this he can act, dance, sing and writes. Girls what more do you want from a guy? I'm sure every girl in cinema hall would want to replace Yami Gautam opposite him. As for Yami, guys would picture them with her.

Music by Abhishek Akshay and Kusum Verma lyrics are the soul of the film. The songs stay with you long after the movie is over.

Arguably Vicky Donor highlights the ordeal of a sperm donor in a country where there's lack of education. And lack of understanding by educated class. It's a film that questions this- you will laugh it off when Joey does it in FRIENDS but when Vicky Arora does it for money you have a problem?  However, no where while addressing this issue the film gets too tense/ too serious/ or boring.

The best thing about Vicky Donor that it's practical, light and one frothy treat.

My Verdict- The sperm of this film is extremely potent. Let it not go waste! Catch it before you regret it.
