March 7, 2012:

publive-imageIt's all about colorful faces, joyful laughter, foot-thumping music and delicious food as Indians celebrate Holi, the country's most vibrant festival of the year. This March, HISTORY TV18 takes viewers to the mystical lands of Lord Krishna as Shitanshu Tyagi and Megha Mamgain rediscover the colorful festival of Holi in a two hour special show 'HOLI UNPLUGGED.'

The hosts travel to Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, the lands of Vrindavan and many places around the region where the festival is celebrated for 16 days culminating on Rangpanchmi. The 16 day celebration will see colors of Gulal, abeer and colored water pichkari's sprayed in all directions on every passerby in the land of mythic Lord Krishna. Join the people of Barsana, a town near Vrindavan, where women play 'Lath Mar Holi' in the gardens of the historic Radha Rani temple. In this strange tradition, women beat up men with sticks while the on-lookers sing Holi Songs and shout 'Sri Radhey or Sri Krishna'. The participating men protect themselves with shields while running around in circles!

Holi is a celebration of happiness; it's about forgiving and forgetting, blurring differences and of sharing the joys of life with one's family and society.
