publive-imageNDTV Good Times, the lifestyle channel from NDTV, is all set to launch a new reality show, 'Foodistan', from January 23, 2012. The show will be aired at 9:30 PM from Monday to Wednesday. It will have 16 participants from India and Pakistan who will battle it out. It will first be a competition between teams, and then amongst individuals. The winner will get to write a cookery book and be given the chance to visit three continents of his choice and meet the chefs of three great restaurants. In the first season, a total of 26 episodes will be aired.

Smeeta Chakrabati, CEO, NDTV Lifestyle, said, “Food as a genre is very publive-imageclose to the DNA of NDTV Good Times and we are committed to taking it to the next level with Foodistan. This will be the biggest show of NDTV Good Times to go on air.”

Though in the recent past there have been plenty of food reality shows, what really differentiates this one is that all the participants are professional chefs and not novices. Another important differentiator is the format of the show which has been developed by NDTV Good Times and Big Synergy and is not a lift from existing food shows aired in India and internationally. Hence, one can expect the show to bring a dash of freshness to the food-based reality show genre.

It is not the first time that a reality show has picked up contestants from India and Pakistan and projected it as a battlefield but it is certainly the first food based show to do so. When we quizzed Chakrabati regarding the theme for the first season, she commented, “It's basically about competition, and with India and Pakistan in the fray, one does not have to build up the rivalry as it is already there.”

Aly Khan and Ira Dubey will be the hosts of the show. Eminent food critic Vir Sanghvi, Sonya Jehan, a Bollywood actress of French-Pakistani descent, and Merrilees Parker, a popular British Chef and Presenter will be the judges of 'Foodistan'.

As it is one of the largest shows that the channel has launched, it has planned a complete 360-degree promotion to ensure that they are able to touch their target audience. NDTV Good Times is also in talks with Geo TV to telecast the show in Pakistan.

The completion in the lifestyle genre has grown manifold. However, NDTV Good Times has managed to hold its turf and has plans to further strengthen its position with the help of shows like Foodistan.
