Hormusji Cama appointed new MRUC Chairman

Arvind Sharma, CEO of Leo Burnett, elected Vice-chairman; Colors CEO Raj Nayak joins board

The board of directors of Media Research Users Council (MRUC), at its Annual General Meeting held yesterday in Mumbai, unanimously elected Hormusji N Cama as the new Chairman. Cama, Director of Gujarati daily Bombay Samachar, takes over from Lloyd Mathias who was elected Chairman of MRUC in July last year after Andrey Purushottam had to cut short his term following his resignation from Mahindra & Mahindra.

The board of directors also elected Arvind Sharma, CEO, Leo Burnett India, as Vice-chairman of MRUC.

Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors, has been brought in to the board in place of G. Krishnan who recently quit TV Today Network as CEO.

The AGM also formally approved the merger of IRS and NRS to create a single readership survey.

The MRUC chair is rotated every two years between the advertisers and publishers constituencies. Cama was made Vice-chairman of MRUC in March this year after Bharat Kapadia, Director of Lokmat, resigned from the post of MRUC Vice-chairman. Cama has been in the Board of Governors of MRUC since September 2007. He has been actively involved with various publishing and industry bodies and is currently on the Board of Directors of Press Trust of India and is a former President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS).

Confirming the development with BestMediaInfo.com, Cama said, “Mathias has successfully led the vision of MRUC in the last one year and I hope to be able to carry forward the responsibility while ensuring the best practices in audience research.”

Talking about his immediate priorities, Cama said, “Outdoor Survey will be our focus area along with IRS-NRS merger. In the AGM, the board of directors has approved the merger which will now be put up to the board of directors of Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).”
