CNBC-TV18, India's no. 1 business medium in partnership with Chivas, presented 'The Power of Dreams', a conclave of the 'Young Turks' held on June 29, 2011 in New Delhi. The conclave not only focussed on acknowledging the success of CNBC-TV18's longest running show on entrepreneurship – 'Young Turks' but also celebrated emerging India's young and talented entrepreneurs who achieved new heights. These entrepreneurs dared to follow their dreams, implemented their ideas into a strategic business endeavour and thus became successful business tycoons in their respective fields of work. The conclave was hosted by Shereen Bhan, Executive EditorCNBC-TV18 & Series Editor, Young Turks. N.R Narayana Murthy, Chairman-Emeritus, Infosys Technologies Ltd. and Shiv Nadar, Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer, HCL Technologies Ltd. were the Guests of honour at the conclave.

The conclave saw young achievers from diverse walks of life share their lessons in excellence. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, Malvinder Singh, Group Chairman, Fortis Healthcare's, Anurag Kashyap, Director and a Screenwriter and Viren Rasquinha, former Captain of India's national field Hockey team,  shared their experiences in realizing the power of turning a dream into a reality.

Opening the session, Narayan Murthy, Chairman-Emeritus, Infosys Technologies Ltd. said “A dream should be lofty, inspirational and highly impactful. A company needs to create visible signs of progress for the benefit of everyone associated. True humility and courage are the two aspects which work for leaders. Transition should ideally be seamless and that also is the answer to dealing with rigidity of thought.” He said that he believed that aligning aspirations is a priority for any company.

Talking about the single factor that led to his unparalleled success,  Shiv Nadar, Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer, HCL Technologies Ltd. spoke of persistence. Explaining how he wasn't chasing business life anymore and enjoyed the process of instruction, Nadar said, “Today my dreams are for others and I feel I am still looking out for my most cherished dream.”

Expressing his views, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, discussed of the two important strengths India possessed - the demographic dividend and entrepreneurism. He truly believes that if these two factors are combined together they will open a new realm of opportunities for the country. He expressed corruption to be the greatest concern for the government and that this issue needs an immediate attention.

Adding further, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto presented an interesting and ingenious approach to managing a business wherein he talked of the cause and effect relationship. He said, “Management as opposed to common perception, should not be top down or bottom up, it should be center out with the brand at the core.” Bajaj also shared the principles which have helped him optimally manage the ever changing business environment – adaptation, evolution, specialization, curiosity, alignment and holism. He also emphasized on the importance of a brand, how it drives business.

Speaking on the occasion, Malvinder Singh, Group Chairman, Fortis Healthcare propounded the ability to lead and the ability to build a passionate team as his two levers to build a global business.  Singh said, It's imperative to train and instruct and have a management to run the business to achieve objectivity in appraisal of the organization”.

Adding further, Anurag Kashyap, Director and a Screenwriter said, “Cinema is the only product sold on anticipation, something that people buy without trying on.” He commented that the industry suffered low confidence on content. He said consistency in his thought process and belief system has helped him achieve success.

Viren Rasquinha, former Captain of India's national field Hockey team, said, “Sports has taught me life lessons-Sport is the ultimate reality show. You 'really' don't know what will happen next! Viren shared the lessons he has learnt from his failures and his quest for Gold at the Olympics.

Speaking on the occasion of the conclave of 'Power of Dreams', Shereen Bhan, Executive Editor,CNBC-TV18 & Series Editor, Young Turks said India has not only evolved as a hub for young and talented individuals aiming to become successful entrepreneurs but also a country of opportunities for new trends, innovative marketing strategies and dynamic business models. Power of Dreams has thus been conceptualized to celebrate a decade of ideas, growth and dreaming big.”
