Publications in the state see light of growth after 4 consecutive weak rounds in last year.

publive-imageIndian Readership Survey findings for the first quarter of 2011 have brought good news for the publications of Gujarat after 4 consecutive weak rounds. 7 out of top 10 dailies in the state have registered growth in IRS Q1 2011.

Gujarat's No.1 daily 'Gujarat Samachar' has maintained its top spot and recovered from the last quarter loss up to some extent. The paper has recorded an AIR of 44.49 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 43.65 lakh in the previous quarter and 45.62 lakh in Q1 2010.

After losing some readers in IRS Q4 2010, Dainik Bhaskar Group's Gujarati Daily 'Divya Bhaskar' has seen some growth in the first quarter of IRS 2011. Divya Bhaskar has recorded an AIR of 35.34 lakh as compared to 35.07 lakh in the previous quarter and 32.29 lakh in IRS Q1 2010.

The 3rd major player in Gujarat 'Sandesh' has seen a decline of 2.1% over last quarter readership. By losing 71,000 readers in the first quarter of IRS 2011, its AIR now stands at 32.32 lakh as compared to 33.03 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 and 31.22 lakh in IRS Q1 2010.

India's No.1 English daily Gujarat's No.4 daily 'The Times of India' continues growing in the state. In the first quarter results of IRS 2011, TOI publive-imagehas registered 15.1% growth. The English daily has recorded an AIR of 3.27 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 2.84 lakh in the last survey findings. TOI had recorded 2.19 lakh readers in Q1 2010.

At No.5 is 'Gujarat Mitra & Darpan' which has shown decline in the second consecutive quarter. The daily has lost 8,000 readers in IRS Q1 2011 and its AIR now stands at 1.7 lakh as compared to 1.78 lakh in the previous survey and 1.83 lakh in Q1 2010.

At No.6 is Gujarati daily 'Kutch Mitra' which has added 31.5% readers in IRS Q1 2011. Its current AIR now stands at 1.21 lakh as compared to 92,000 in previous quarter and 1.15 lakh in Q1 2010.

'Rajasthan Patrika' is at 7th spot with current AIR of 71,000 as compared to 57,000 in IRS Q4 2010.

'Ahmedabad Mirror' has find a place at No.8 with 37,000 readers in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 43,000 readers in last survey.

At 9th and 10th spots are 'Economic Times' and 'The Indian Express' with 24,000 and 23,000 readers respectively.
