New York Festivals® International Advertising Awards will honor iconic Award-Winning Commercial and Feature Film Director Bob Giraldi  with one of the first ever  NYF Living  Legend Awards. Giraldi will be presented the award on Thursday, May 5th at the 2011 International Advertising Awards “The New York Show” taking place in New York City on May 4th & 5th.  Giraldi will also present a keynote speech “MY LIFE IN TWENTY - A Lifetime Making TV Commercials & Teaching Others How to Do it Better,” on Thursday, May 5th at 1 PM at Skylight West.

The NYF Living Legend Award recognizes prominent industry luminaries whose personal excellence and extraordinary contributions have advanced the field of advertising, made a lasting impression on the creative community, and who continue to influence the profession in a significant way.

“I'm humbled, I'm honored, and I'm happy to be recognized -- It gets better all the time, just like a 1991 Brunello di Montalcino,” said Bob Giraldi, Award-Winning Commercial & Feature Film Director, NYF Living Legend

“Bob has been more than mentor, his passion for his work and his discerning eye have helped guide generations of students.   Generous both with his time and his knowledge, Bob is truly a living legend,” said JD Gargano, Broadcast Designer and Motionographer for Tribune Creative Group.

Bob Giraldi is a true renaissance man, bringing his creative mark to a variety of mediums including videos, films, commercials, education, and restaurants.  One of the original "Mad Men," Giraldi was a creative director at the famous Y&R Ad Agency. During his tenure he won numerous awards, and in the middle of the early advertising creative revolution he earned the distinction of being named as one of “101 Stars Behind 100 Years of Advertising.”  He has gone on to direct over 4000 commercials.

Giraldi's advertising campaigns include the Pepsi-Cola campaign with Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, as well as commercials for the Miller Brewing company featuring celebrities such as Dick Butkus, Bob Uecker, John Madden, and Rodney Dangerfield.

His unique visual and musical storytelling abilities set the tone in the early days of MTV music videos.   His award winning video for Michael Jackson's “Beat It,” won numerous awards including that year's coveted American Music Award, the Billboard Music Award and the People's Choice Award. Giralidi has worked with such music legends as Pat Benatar, Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Ricky Martin, Hall & Oates and Will Smith.

Bob Giraldi's feature film, “Dinner Rush, with Danny Aiello, John Corbett and Sandra Bernhard, appeared on a number of 2001's Top 10 lists such as Newsweek and was selected for the prestigious New Directors/New Films Series at MoMa. Among all the awards it was also listed by Roger Ebert as “One of the Best 100 Films in the Last 10 Years. Giraldi also is the director of Jon Cryer's “Hiding Out.

Bob's short film, The Routine,, premiered at Sundance and won Best Drama at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and My Hometown, is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame's permanent collection and two short films; Dream Begins,” and “A Peculiar City, both integral parts of New York's national Olympic bid, is now in MoMA's permanent collection.   His latest short, The Grey Coat,” is a NY story of a hardworking immigrant Korean family being extorted by two dirty cops and the emergence of an unlikely hero.

Giraldi's successful foray into the New York restaurant scene includes launching Jo-Jo with Jean Georges Vongerichten in the early '90s.  He then helped start the Jean Georges 4-star namesake restaurant as well as Vong in both London and Hong Kong. Giraldi was also co-owner in Patria and Mercer Kitchen, both of which received 3 stars from The New York Times.   His Tuscan fare eatery BREADTribeca has earned 2 Stars from The New York Times, and his Diablo Royale has become a popular taqueria in the West Village.  Both Gigino Trattoria and Gigino at Wagner Park have remained Italian favorites in Tribeca for over 10 years.

The 2011 NYF International Advertising Awards honoring the “World's Best Advertising™” will take place on May 4th and 5th at Skylight West in New York City.  This two-day celebration will feature keynote speakers, including one by Keith Reinhard, Chairman Emeritus of Omnicom, as well as Bob Giraldi.  In addition, there will be creative panel discussions, screenings, and gallery exhibits, a “Meet the Jury Press Conference,” as well as the presentation of the NYF Lifetime Achievement Award, and Living Legend Awards.
