As a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the attack on the Indian Parliament, Zee News honoured those heroes who had taken on and neutralized Fidayeen who had come to wreak havoc in the temple of India's democracy. Zee News, as a tribute, held Ananya Samman on the same day – December 13 2011, at New Delhi.

Ananya Samman conceived in 2008 in the backdrop of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, is an effort by Zee News to show gratitude to the real heroes of India. It is recognition of the remarkable and untiring efforts of those who have done yeoman service in different spheres for the betterment of the nation, but have remained in the shadows unsung.

Chief Guest Ms. Meira Kumar on the occasion said "Hon'ble Subhash Chandra, who is the soul of this award ceremony, is right when he says that the Parliament is a temple of democracy where voices of 125 billion Indians echo. I salute those gallant soldiers who fought for Parliament's security.”  "Ananya are those who are unparalleled, who are beyond comparison. And you are paying homage to such men of honour. So I would like to congratulate Subhash Chandra and Zee News for this noble gesture of awarding the brave hearts with Ananya Samman.”

Zee News CEO, Barun Das, said Ananya Samman, which has now taken root as a tradition, is being observed every year in line with the company's philosophy to laud all that which is positive and exemplary in society.

He asserted that Zee News believed that the security of India and the well being of the citizenry depended far too much on the hidden, but epic acts of gallantry of unsung heroes. And the scenario that faces us today would not have been this promising, had it not been for the valorous exploits of some of those who now rest in unvisited tombs and may never be read about on the pages of history.

Speaking on the occasion, Subhash Chandra, Chairman Essel Group said, “It is due to these, often unsung, tales of valour that we survive and thrive as a democratic Republic.” He added, “The heroes of our country are living examples of the principles Bapu taught us. Through Ananya Samman, Zee News celebrates the idea of India and achievement of all those who keep our Indian-ness secure. Let us unite and overcome.”

He further said, “Our democracy seemingly faces danger from the cancer of corruption. The parasite has spread its tentacles far and wide and deep – nibbling away at least 1% from our real GDP growth. Possibly, it may be one of the key factors that is arresting our attempt to reclaim our past glory. To rid ourselves of the menace is a daunting challenge. I have faith – we shall overcome.”
