History partners with CBSC for heritage education

Reworking on History in schools, the channel unveils unique outreach initiative promote education and conservation of monuments

publive-imageHistory has announced its range of outreach programmes to promote education and conservation of Indian monuments. The channel will partner CBSE schools in its educational campaign to preserve and protect heritage monuments in the country.

As part of this initiative, CBSE, along with History, will shortly present the Heritage Quiz 2011, which involves approximately 1000 schools affiliated to the board. The quiz follows an exhaustive selection process which involves a written exam followed by three grueling rounds of quizzing finally culminating in the grand finale to be held on 9th December 2011 at New Delhi.

UNESCO will also play an active part in this initiative by putting together some questions, which will be integrated into the Heritage Quiz.

The quiz is part of a comprehensive partnership between the two organizations which also includes other interesting conservation efforts like Heritage walks; Adopt a Monument, Poster making & Short Film Competitions. The monumental effort is reach out to lakhs of students across the thousands of schools to spread awareness on the importance of conservation and other pertinent issues affecting society.

Speaking on this occasion, Vineet Joshi Chairman, CBSE, said “We hope that this association between CBSE & History will provide a wider platform to the CBSE to reach out to more and more schools and boost its drive to promote educational innovations, in general, and Preserve and Protect heritage monuments in the country in particular.”

Commenting on History's partnership with CBSE, Ajay Chacko, President, A+E Networks | TV 18 added, “Our association with CBSE is two-fold viz. promoting education and conservation of historical monuments. The objective is to promote these two broader concepts through various activities involving students as an integral part of the entire process. The Heritage Quiz is one of the biggest initiatives by CBSE and we are very happy to be a part of this.”
