CNN-IBN & RIL announce 4th Edition of Real Heroes Awards

24 selfless Heroes of India honoured at a glittering ceremony held in Mumbai.

Heroes do not come from heaven; they live amongst us until they face their moment of reckoning. In an endeavour to discover the selfless heroes of our society, CNN-IBN India’s No. 1 English News Channel in partnership with Reliance Industries Limited India’s largest private sector enterprise, announced the winners of 4th Edition of ‘Real Heroes Awards’. These 24 Real Heroes have who have redefined humanity by dedicating their life towards the betterment of society were felicitated at a glittering gala ceremony held in Mumbai in the presence of the crème de la crème of the nation. These exceptional individuals who have worked tirelessly for the betterment of society with unwavering determination and courage were felicitated with a trophy and a cash prize of INR 5.0 lacs each.

The grand finale of the award ceremony will telecast on CNN-IBN at 9:30 pm, IBN7 at 8 pm and IBN-Lokmat at 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2011.

These inspiring Real Heroes have changed the face of our society through their unparallel contributions and this initiative is a tribute to salute the Real Heroes for working towards bringing a change in our society. The CNN-IBN editorial board has short-listed 24 Real Heroes from across India (6 from each zone) North, South, East & West with their work the categories of Women Welfare, Social Welfare, Health and Disability, Environment, Youth, Education & Children, and Sports.

Business leaders Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, renowned Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, famous film-maker Yash Chopra, legendary singer Asha Bhonsle and former-cricketer Anil Kumble, all of who have lent their voices to a number of social causes were the Guests of Honour at the ceremony.

Our Real Heroes have demonstrated time and again how this can be achieved at the grassroots level. Our Real Heroes make us proud Indians. We salute you -- our Real Heroes. We salute the spirit of benevolence, generosity and sacrifice. You have proved a simple but profound truth… That ordinary people have the potential of extraordinary achievements.”
