The outgoing Railway Minister who'll now be Chief Minister of Bengal has launched the first on-board magazine of the Railways, Rail Bandhu. The magazine will be distributed free in the Rajdhanis, Shatabdis and AC coaches of the Durantos.

Rail Bandhu's inaugural May issue is of 218 pages of which 66 pages are ads. To start with, the magazine would be distributed free of cost to travellers in trains like Shatabdi-Rajdhani Express. In the pilot stage, it will have a print run of one lakh copies. If the pilot proves to be successful, a further 10 lakh copies would be printed.

Bournvita Quiz contest fame Derek O'brien who's also Mamata Banerjee's aid and head of a railway committee on passenger services is also in the Editorial Board of Rail Bandhu. Apart from O'Brien and key Indian Railways personalities, the editorial board also consists of artist Shuvaprasanna, who heads a railway committee on passenger amenities
