After a long wait for two years, Ministry releases the list of channels that have received approval.

publive-imageFinally after 2009, the Ministry of information and broadcasting has given its nod to 75 new channels to go on air. Since 2009 ministry wasn't giving permission to uplink and downlink channels in India.

Broadcasters that have got permission for their new channels are ZEE Entertainment, Star India, UTV Entertainment, Discovery Communications, ESPN and Fox Channels.

In India 600 channels are already fighting an intense battle for viewership and these 75 new channels are definitely going to expand the entertainment pie.

Discovery communication has got permission for Discovery Kids, Investigation Discovery, Home and Health, 3D Net, Military, UTV has got clearance for a regional channel, a comedy channel, and a music channel. Zee has got permission for 24x7 home shopping and would also launch various regional channels in HD. Fox Channels will launch Nat Geo Adventure and Nat Geo Wild. ESPN will launch Star Cricket in HD. Star India has got clearance for Star Bengali.

There are several other channels from smaller broadcasters too in the list.
