IRS Q4 2010: Top 10 Dailies In Madhya Pradesh

Top 3 newspapers continue to grow; growth rate of Patrika declines this quarter.

publive-imageMP has always been the strong hold of 'Dainik Bhaskar' where it remains the distant leader. Competing with the new entrants in the state, the No.1 daily is still growing at a consistent rate. While it grows by 5.3% in the fourth quarter of IRS 2010, the overall growth of the daily is 9.5% during the year. Its current AIR stands at 35.34 lakh as compared by 33.57 lakh in the previous quarter. The average issue readership of Dainik Bhaskar was recoded at 32.01 lakh in Q2 while it was 32.26 lakh in Q1.

The second largest read daily of Madhya Pradesh is 'Nai Dunia' which has seen a tremendous growth of 37.4% in 2010. Growing by 11.8% in IRS Q4 2010, the newspaper has recorded an AIR of 12.09 lakh as compared to 10.81 lakh in the previous quarter. Nai Dunia had an AIR of 9.82 lakh in Q2 while it had recorded 8.8 lakh in Q1. The newspaper has added a total of 3.29 lakh readers over the year.

publive-imageAt No.3, 'Patrika' has seen a decline in its growth rate which it had in Q2 and Q3, however, the paper has manage to grow by 15.3% during the fourth quarter of IRS 2010. The average issue readership of Patrika stands at 10.8 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 9.37 lakh in Q3, 7.25 lakh in Q2 and 5.83 lakh in Q1. The paper has recorded an overall growth by 85.2% in the state this year.

'Raj Express' has lost a few readers this quarter but the newspaper hold the 4th spot firmly. Its current AIR stands at 5.74 lakh as compared to 6.18 lakh in Q3, 6.12 lakh in Q2 and 6.26 lakh in Q1.

'Dainik Jagran' has become the fifth largest read daily of the state which has bounced back in this quarter after losing some readers in last two quarters and replaced Nav Bharat. Jagran has grown by 15.9% to take its current AIR at 3.43 lakh as compared to 2.96 lakh in Q3, 3.39 lakh in Q2 and 3.77 lakh in Q1.

'Hari Bhoomi' is at No.6 and strengthening its position on quarter on quarter basis with a consistent growth but the newspaper has threat of losing its position to another daily NavDunia which is growing rapidly. Hari Bhoomi has recorded an AIR of 3.3 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 2.86 lakh in Q3, 2.11 lakh in Q2 and 1.89 lakh in Q1. The paper has registered an overall growth of 75% during 2010.

The new No.7 daily in Madhya Pradesh is 'NavDunia' which has grown by 67% in the current quarter and jumped up two positions. It has recorded an AIR of 2.91 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 1.74 lakh in Q3, 1.43lakh in Q2 and 55,000. The overall growth for the daily over the year has been 429%.

Pushed down to No.8 position now, 'Dainik Abhiman' is holding its readers and registered an AIR of 2.58 lakh in the current survey in comparison to 2.48 lakh in previous quarter. The paper had an AIR of 2.52 lakh in Q2 while it had 2.26 lakh readers in Q1.

'Nav Bharat' is losing its ground in Madhya Pradesh from past few quarters. Coming down at No.9 from 5th spot in the previous quarter, the newspaper has recorded an AIR of 2 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 3.31 lakh in Q3, 3.48 lakh in Q2 and 3.86 lakh in Q1. The daily has seen a decline of 48% over the year.

The last in the top 10 league is 'Dainik Prabhat Kiran' with 94,000 readers in IRS Q4 2010 as compared to 99,000 in Q3, 73,000 in Q2 and 75,000 in Q1.
