Real Lifestyle Network's premier offering, FOOD first, a 24x7 channel dedicated to food, recently concluded a food habits survey with more than 700 people spread across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune. An equal ratio of males and females, mostly in the age group of 25-34 years undertook this survey.  The survey was embarked on with an objective to gain an understanding of the latest trends & habits around food & its consumption, in India.

A recap of the inferences drawn from the survey:

1. Gone are the days when food was a basic necessity. To a significant 43% of the total population who took the survey, food is a way  to explore new experiences

2. Breakfast was believed to be the best way to start off your day. However, only 22% believes that fact as per the survey results while 36% people have voted 'Dinner' as the most important meal as it's a perfect idea of togetherness for Indian families

3. The 'tasty' aspect of food grabs the limelight with 65% people favoring taste over other important factors like hygiene, health and nutrition

4. Surprisingly 'Indian recipe' contributed only 20% of the global search volume. 'Indian recipe' global monthly searches – 246000, local monthly

Interesting facts about eating out:

1. The Primary motive to eat out is to Relax & Enjoy, Convenience comes a close second

2. Eating out is a huge occurrence: 2 out of 3 people today eat out once a week or more!

3. Families do remain a priority, but what's really interesting is that couples eating out is a very significant population too

4. Indians love snacking – 45% of global monthly searches for the month of December on the keyword 'snacks recipe'

Where does one search for ideas for eating out?

1. Follow the traditional approach  - who Call Friends &  look to Newspapers and Magazines

2. A good populace also embraces new media & web-based networking

How does one choose restaurants?

1. Three out of four people decide the restaurant to go to, simply basis the Cuisine(s) available!

2. Friends' Recommendations  &  Personal Favourites also bias a choice in restaurants

3. Contrary to expectations, Budget & Distances don't influence too much

1. Google's our new  star,  reigning at the top

1. Dating & Cheap Tickets are probably India's favourite 'most searched' words online today, but they seem to be on a decline
