Rarely does it happen that our media organises an award function to felicitate our PSUs, which are usually in bad press, and rarer is the occasion when a media house pays tribute the PSUs by launching of a coffee table book.
Dainik Bhaskar group launched its coffee table book 'Ardhshatak', a tribute to Indian Public sector yesterday at Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi. The book was launched by Virbhadra Singh, Union Minister of Steel. The book covers the entire journey of the major PSUs and their contribution to nation. The Group has also constituted India Pride Awards to recognize the excellence of PSUs.
Speaking on the occasion, Virbhadra Singh, Union Minister of Steel said, “It is heartening to note that Dainik Bhaskar Group, keeping its rich tradition of coming out with new innovative things, is bringing the much awaited and specialized coffee table book on India's Public Sector companies and their achievements. The most important aspect is that the content of this coffee table tries to examine the 'turning point' in lifecycle of the PSUs for many years in the past. It gives me pleasure that Dainik Bhaskar group having completed its own 50 years of existence has thought of this noble idea for which I wish them all success and convey my good wishes.”
Also present on the occasion was Ramesh Chandra Agarwal, Chairman Dainik Bhaskar Group. While addressing the gathering, Agarwal said, “In our more than 52 years of existence we realized the importance of our tipping point and wanted to document the story of some of the leading nation builders too. This coffee table book is an anthology of some of the major public sector undertaking that for the backbone of India's infrastructure. I hope this book will act as an inspiration for the corporate world as well as individual entities to raise their bar to reach the heights of excellence and succeed in their endeavors.”
A panel which included eminent people from the PSUs also discussed the role of Indian PSUs in the building of nation on the occasion of book launch. The discussion was moderated by Yatish K Rajawat, Managing Editor, Dainik Bhaskar Group and Editor-in-Chief, Business Bhaskar. Informing the gathering, Rajawat said, “We are not going to stop this discussion here. We'll continue this through our publications.”
The entire concept of launching a coffee table book and organizing India Pride Awards to recognize the excellence of PSUs is the thought process of National Government Vertical of Dainik Bhaskar Group.
While making BestMediaInfo.com acquaintance with the thought process behind the launch of the coffee table book, Jaideep Dhagat, Senior General Manager and Business Head, National Government Vertical, Dainik Bhaskar Group said, “This is the pioneering initiative for PSUs of India. PSUs have always been the backbone of Indian growth and economy but have always been neglected by media; rather they have become target of most of the media houses. Private sector companies are usually highlighted all the time but our national pride PSUs hardly are being praised for their contribution towards the building of this nation. We at Dainik Bhaskar Group have decided to pay our tribute in various innovative ways.”
Adding further Dhagat said, “Dainik Bhaskar Group is the first media house to take the responsibility to tell the people about the importance and contributions of PSUs. Our special 4 pages supplement on Steel Industry on 31st July, 2010 was one such initiative by our National Government Vertical team. Then we announced our second edition of India Pride Awards to be held on 13th September for our PSUs. And in a yet another innovative and unique way, we have released the Coffee Table Book named 'Ardhshatak' dedicated to the gems of our country. This book has all the turning points in the history of PSUs in India with deep insights on their journey. There are more innovations to come to glorify and recognize the contributions of PSUs in a true manner.”
