Zee Media on Saturday sacked its CEO Abhay Ojha, exactly one year after his appointment in this role.

The company informed its employees in an internal mail that Ojha’s services ceased with effect from Saturday, May 4, 2024, afternoon onwards.

A copy of the email received by BestMediaInfo.com confirmed Ojha’s sacking.

BestMediaInfo.com is not privy to the exact reasons that led to Ojha’s sacking but the sources confirmed that it was a result of several wrong decisions made by him as a CEO.

Apparently, Essel Group Chairman Subhash Chandra was not happy with the decision to telecast slanderous reports on leading brands including Dabur, Maruti and Hyundai.

The company further wrote in the mail that Dr Idris Loya will take the handover from him.

Loya is Essel Group’s Chief Technology Officer. He’s been associated with the Group since April 2023.

Ojha joined Zee Media Corp in February 2022 as the P&L Head for Cluster-3 (Zee MP/CG, Zee UP/UK, Zee PHH, Zee Delhi NCR Haryana and Zee Salam.

He was later promoted to the role of Chief Business Officer in November 2022 and then he was inducted as key management personnel as the CEO of the company on May 3, 2023.

Previously, he was CEO of the video app Changa for close to six months.

Ojha launched Marathi News Channel Maharastra1 as one of the founders between 2015-2017.

He started his career with HUL as Territory Sales Incharge in 1996.

He moved to media sales in 2000 and worked with media brands such as Turner, Star TV, Zee TV, IndusInd and Shop CJ.

Recently, Zee Media’s Chief Manager, Legal Piyush Choudhary also resigned from the company.
