Delhi: Recent media reports indicate that OpenAI might be preparing to launch its own search engine to compete with Google, though the company has yet to confirm these plans.

According to a tech analyst known as X on Twitter, OpenAI is planning a significant event on May 9 to showcase new products, just one week before Google's annual I/O developer conference.

At this anticipated event, OpenAI is expected to reveal more about its new developments, especially since it has been actively building its events team since January and recently hired an events manager. There are hints of another major event in June where OpenAI could introduce its next model.

The company's recent activities include the creation of over 50 new asynchronous subdomains since April 24, suggesting preparations for a new service launch. Speculation is that OpenAI's search engine, potentially integrating Bing technology, could debut before Google I/O on May 14, 2024. This move could significantly affect the relevance of Perplexity AI, particularly following Microsoft's recent ban on its use over security issues.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has shown interest in enhancing search functionalities with large language models (LLMs), aiming to transcend traditional search capabilities to better assist users in finding, acting on, and synthesising information.

This strategy is in line with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's vision of incorporating OpenAI's GPT models into Bing to create a formidable competitor to Google.
