Aaj Tak beats all channels across genres during Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration

The television ratings of the Jan 22 Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony released by BARC India on Thursday have broken records for news television viewership.

After breaking viewership records on digital, the historic event delivered record TRPs for the news channels.

In the absence of unrolled data for the news genre, it is not possible to compare the data of a specific event among news channels.

However, BestMediaInfo.com sourced the customised event reporting (CER) data of Aaj Tak to ascertain the grandeur of the television viewership of the consecration day.

During the consecration hours (from 12 - 1.30 pm), Aaj Tak delivered 4,266 AMA (000’s) in the 15+ age group in Hindi-speaking markets.

The absolute viewership of the channel was 1.5X of Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plus, which garnered 2,718 AMA (000s). Sony SAB and Star Pravah were at No. 2 and 3 with 1,663 AMA (000s) and 1,278 AMA (000s), respectively.

The viewership of Aaj Tak during the whole day on Jan 22 was way more than that of the counting day of Assembly elections in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur on March 10, 2022.

Aaj Tak recorded 1,761 AMA (000s) on Jan 22 while its viewership on March 10, 2022 was 1,578 AMA (000s).

The CER data sourced from India Today Group also revealed that Aaj Tak's GRP (Gross Rating Point) on Jan 22 exceeded the five-day average GRPs of many news channels during typical weeks.

As per prediction algo internally developed by India Today Group, this is the highest single-day GRP recorded by any news channel ever since data release.
