News channels pushed into 'war hysteria' yet again

At a time when India is hosting ICC ODI World Cup and the frenzy around Team India’s performance is at its peak, BARC India ratings for the news genre indicates the country is watching the ‘war hysteria’ shown by news channels.

As a result, all the news broadcasters have latched on to Israel-Hamar war coverage while putting on the back burner every other developments taking place in the country including high-stake assembly elections in five states.

All this was evident in the Week 43 (21st-27th October 23) of BARC India data released today (TG: 15+ NCCS All, Hindi Speaking Markets, TV+OOH, four-week rolling).

The week also saw resumption of ratings for Zee News which opened at No. 9 amid the ongoing ‘war hysteria’ on television.

The industry should not be surprised if Zee News is also forced to go by the BARC’s book and start its own version of ‘war hysteria’ for survival.
