No baggage, no perception will work in my favour: Zee News' DNA host Sourabh Raj Jain

With the falling state of television news, one can hear people jokingly saying “only god can save it”. And, Zee News brought ‘Krishna’ to host its daily primetime show DNA.

On a serious note, from viewers to the government, almost everyone lost hope as television news channels are unwilling to mend their ways and continue with the hyperbole and trivialisation in the quest to win the race for TRPs.

Zee News was the second channel after NDTV to quit the TRP race and focus on content which lives up to the standard set for television news.

After exiting BARC ratings a few months back, the channel has been changing its DNA gradually which led to the overhaul of its daily primetime show DNA.

The channel opened the news industry for Bollywood actors and roped in Sourabh Raj Jain, who played the role of Krishna in Star Plus’ magnum opus Mahabharat.

When Jain started his journey as a news show host on Tuesday at 9 PM on Zee News, the audience was able to connect with him. His dialogue delivery resembled that of Krishna which left a mark on viewers' memory forever.

In an exclusive conversation with BestMediaInfo.com, Jain said he is a common man before an actor and he is confident in narrating the issues related to the common man on the show.

Jain, a business management graduate, was involved in the entire curation and packaging of his first show and said that he would continue to do so with the aim to maintain credibility.

“As a show host, I’m responsible for every word I speak and hence it is my responsibility to be a part of the entire process,” Jain said.

On being new to the news industry, Jain said that he got into acting out of curiosity and learned on the job.

It is true that India breathes politics but DNA will be less political and more about the common man, Jain affirmed.

“DNA will remain fact-based and data-backed show,” he added.

When pointed out that fact and data-backed shows are also manipulated by proceeding half facts or data, Jain resolved that he and the 18-people-strong research team of DNA will ensure all the facts and data are presented in their entirety.

When asked how will he make his mark among the current lot of news anchors, Jain said that he does not come with any baggage or perception and this is what differentiates him from others.

“If people connect with me for my role as Krishna, it will be the most heartening thing,” he concluded.

Besides Mahabharat, Jain also played the role of Lord Shiva in Mahakali, a negative character in Chandragupta Maurya and Lord Vishnu in Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev (2011).

He made his debut in the film industry with the English movie Karma: Crime. Passion. Reincarnation (2008). Subsequently, in 2017, he ventured into Telugu cinema with his debut in the movie Om Namo Venkatesaya (2017).
