History TV18 brings India’s ‘Surgical Strikes’ anniversary special

On the second anniversary of India’s historic military operation across the LOC, the infotainment channel will telecast a path breaking documentary featuring newly released and never before seen images

On 18 September 2016, four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists attacked an Indian Army Garrison in the town of Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. Nineteen Indian soldiers were martyred in the Fidayeen attack. Eleven days later, the Indian Army carried out a series of deadly strikes across the Line of Control. This Counter Terrorist Operation is better known as the Surgical Strikes.

Two years on, History TV18 is dedicating a special, updated anniversary edition of the ground-breaking documentary Special Operations: India ‘Surgical Strikes’ at 7pm and 9pm on September 28, 2018, to mark the second anniversary of India’s retaliatory strikes on terrorist launch-pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

In addition to the telecast on History TV18, the documentary will be played out from September 28-30 at the Parakram Parv celebrations at India Gate. The documentary will be played after the event’s inauguration at 6.30pm by India’s Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Anniversary Special features actual images of India’s counter-terrorist military surveillance, reconnaissance and visuals of the surgical strikes. Some of the visuals in the documentary have never been seen before on television.

The documentary brings to life the secret mission, with dramatic recreations, newly released images, and first-person accounts of the key decision makers in the government, military top brass and Indian Special Forces, leading the operation.

The programme features some of the most respected names in India’s National Security Establishment. Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor to the Government of India; Manohar Parrikar, former Defence Minister; General Dalbir Singh former Chief of Army Staff; Lt. General DS Hooda, former  Commander of the Northern Army. They reveal what actually happened behind the scenes and on the ground. The story of the mission is reconstructed blow by blow, based on the accounts of the operatives and Commanding Officer of the Indian Army’s Special Forces, who led the counter terror strikes in PoK. The identities of the special forces operatives have been kept concealed for security reasons. Defence analyst and author, Nitin Gokhale also shares his views on the surgical strikes.

Speaking on this special dedication, Avinash Kaul, COO-Network 18 and MD A+E Networks I TV18, said, "As a channel, History TV18 always brings to its audience documentaries that are ground-breaking and unique. Special Operations: India ‘Surgical Strikes’ is a one-of its kind documentary on Indian television. With this special dedication, the channel celebrates the spirit of the martyrs who fought for the safety and pride of our country.”
