Cannes Lions 2018: ‘Sweet Change’ as McCann India hits a Gold on Day 3

The agency wins first Gold outside Lions Health competition. Overall, India brings five Lions home on the third day, including a Gold, two Silver and two Bronze Lions

The third day at Cannes Lions 2018 saw India winning the first Gold outside Lions Health competition wherein TBWA\India had won a Grand Prix for Good and Gold for its work titled ‘Blink to Speak’.

Overall, Indian agencies won five Lions on Day 3 including a Gold, two Silver and two Bronze Lions.

McCann India Mumbai won a Gold and a Silver Lion in the inaugural Creative e-Commerce category for its work ‘Sweet Change’ done for Paytm.

Prasoon Joshi

Prasoon Joshi, Chairman, McCann Asia Pacific and CEO and CCO, McCann Worldgroup India, said, “It’s been a great journey to partner with a brand like Paytm. We at McCann are especially proud as it’s rare to be a part of the growth trajectory of a brand. It’s special to receive recognition at Cannes, especially a Gold. My congratulations to the client, Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Founder and CEO, Paytm), and the entire team at McCann, especially Kapil Batra, our Delhi Creative Chief.”

Ogilvy India Bangalore won a Silver and a Bronze Lion in Film Craft category for ‘the world’s most honest tourism film’ done for MP Tourism Development Corporation. There were a total of six shortlists from India in this category.

FCB India Mumbai won a Bronze Lion in Brand Experience & Activation category for its ‘Sindoor Khela - No Conditions Apply’ for The Times of India. There were four shortlists in this category.

Sanjeev Bhargava

Sanjeev Bhargava, Director, Brand TOI, said, "We are ecstatic that our work has been recognised at global platform like Cannes. Being the most influential media house in the country, we have always believed that not only are we the chroniclers of change but catalysts as well. Something that is always appreciated at Cannes. But this year the Sindoor Khela campaign has penetrated a seemingly harmless tradition to create a realisation of how easily we overlook the marginalised. I am delighted at the recognition and honoured to work with the teams in TOI and FCB on this project which has all the makings of a sustained campaign over the next few years."

Rohit Ohri

Rohit Ohri, Group Chairman & CEO, FCB India, said, “The Lion we've won for our campaign for TOI stands testimony to the creative transformation at FCB India. This transformation has energised the entire agency, creating a momentum and a new winning culture. I'm truly proud of Team FCB!”

Swati Bhattacharya

Swati Bhattacharya, CCO, FCB Ulka, said, “I am very happy that this piece of work is getting so much love. There is nothing more powerful than sisterhood for us women. Sindoor Khela #NoConditionsApply is a testimony to this.”

There was no Indian winner for Entertainment for Music Lions wherein DDB Mudra Group Mumbai’s work titled ‘Suede Gully’ done for Puma was shortlisted in two sub-categories.

In the Industry Craft category, Creativeland Asia’s four shortlists for Mercedez Benz could not turn into medals.

As of date, Indian agencies have won a total of 13 Lions, including a Lions Health Grand Prix for Good, two Gold, four Silver and six Bronze Lions.
