Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) spent 25% more on advertising in the quarter ending March 31, 2018 than the corresponding quarter last year. The FMCG giant spent Rs 1,070 crore in Q4FY18, up from Rs 853 crore in Q4FY17. However, the advertising spend in Q4 witnessed a dip of 3% from Rs 1,107 crore in the quarter ending December 31, 2017.
The advertising spend for the entire 2017-18 was up by 18% from the previous year. The company reported the annual ad spend of Rs 4,105 crore in FY18 while it was 3,470 crore in the previous year.
HUL’s reported net sales grew by 3% during the quarter while comparable domestic consumer sales grew by 16% during the quarter.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter at Rs 2,048 crores (MQ 17: Rs 1,651 crores) grew by 24%.
Profit After Tax for the quarter at Rs 1,351 crores (MQ 17: Rs1,183 crores) grew by 14 %.
For FY 2017-18 net comparable sales grew by 11%, Domestic Consumer Business (FMCG) grew by 12%, Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 20%, Profit after tax from ordinary activities before Exceptional Items grew by 21% and profit after tax grew at 17%.
