GEC Watch: Star Bharat climbs to the top of U+R, Colors continues to lead urban

In Week 49 of 2017 (December 2-8) of BARC India data, Star Bharat and Colors claimed the top two spots in the combined markets U+R, displacing Zee TV and Zee Anmol. Star Bharat grew on the back of its comedy fiction Kya Haal Mr Panchaal and a new show Jiji Maa, which entered the top 10 in the rural ranks.

Colors continued to be at No. 1 in the urban markets while Zee Anmol was on top in rural. Sony Entertainment Television’s Super Dance Chapter 2 also grabbed position in the top shows’ list in the U+R and urban markets. Sony Pal’s Chintu Ban Gaya Gentleman also entered the top shows’ list in the rural markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 49 of 2017 (December 2-8) for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Star Bharat climbed to the top spot with 725.644 million (last week 657.889 million) Impressions. Colors too jumped a spot up to reach No. 2 position with 643.097 million (last week 649.192 million) Impressions. Zee TV slipped to No. 3 garnering 636.443 million (last week 675.065 million) Impressions. Zee Anmol continued at No. 4 with 611.444 million (last week 612.946 million) Impressions. Sony Pal continued at the fifth spot with 606.991 million (last week 595.324 million) Impressions. Star Utsav stayed at No. 6 garnering 546.771 million (last week 489.578 million) Impressions. Star Plus stayed at No. 7 with 493.837 million (last week 464.278 million) Impressions. Rishtey at No. 8 clocked 425.303 million (last week 421.112 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television climbed one spot up to reach No. 9 position with gross viewership of 395.579 million (last week 383.014 million) Impressions. Sony SAB slipped to No. 10 with 393.338 million (last week 420.114 million) Impressions.

Top shows in U+R markets

As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Star Bharat’s Kya Haal Mr Panchaal climbed the top spot with 12.126 million Impressions in Week 49. Zee TV’s original fiction Kumkum Bhagya and its spin-off show Kundali Bhagya grabbed the No. 2 and 3 spots with 11.780 million (last week 11.383 million) and 11.683 million (last week 12.132 million) Impressions, respectively. Sony Pal’s Balveer continued at No. 4 with 9.631 million (last week 9.616 million) Impressions. Sony TV’s Super Dancer Chapter 2 entered the list at No. 5 with 9.539 million Impressions.

Top channels in urban markets

Colors continued to lead the flock of Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) in the urban markets, garnering 460.584 million (last week 466.430 million) Impressions. Zee TV was ranked as the second most-watched Hindi GEC in the urban markets clocking 387.912 million (last week 404.079 million) Impressions. Star Plus stood at the third spot in the urban markets with 349.333 million (last week 328.260 million) Impressions. Star Bharat stood at the fourth spot by clocking 340.796 million (last week 315.957 million) Impressions, followed by Sony Sab garnering 287.022 million (last week 315.719 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television continued at sixth spot with 286.284 million (last week 273.799 million) Impressions. Sony Pal was at No. 7 with 178.945 million (last week 185.728 million) Impressions. &TV was at No. 8 garnering 151.942 million (last week 150.323 million) Impressions. Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya was the second most-watched show in the urban markets with 7.345 million (last week 7.250 million) Impressions. Sony Sab’s flagship property Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood third with 6.973 million (last week 6.162 million) Impressions. Sony TV’s Super Dancer Chapter 2 entered the list at No. 4 with 6.571 million Impressions. Colors’ Udaan was at No. 5 with 6.089 million (last week 5.990 million) Impressions.

Sony Pal’s Baalveer was the most watched show in the rural markets in Week 49 by clocking 7.774 million (last week 6.277 million) Impressions. Star Bharat’s Kya Haal Mr Panchaal climbed to No. 2 with 6.994 million (last week 6.084 million) Impressions. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Chintu Ban Gaya Gentleman ranked No. 3 and 4 with 6.463 million (last week 7.582 million) and 6.356 million Impressions, respectively. Star Bharat’s Jiji Maa came in fifth with 5.354 million Impressions.
