GEC Watch: Sony Entertainment Television climbs to No. 1 in urban markets

The channel gains on the back of the ongoing reality show Kaun banega Crorepati and the newly launched talent hunt show Super Dancer Chapter II

In Week 40 of 2017 (September 30-October 6), Sony Entertainment Television claimed the No. 1 position in the urban markets, while the rural and U+R markets had Zee Anmol as the leader. Sony Entertainment Television grew stronger on the back of its reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati which became the most watched show in urban and U+R.

While Colors climbed to No. 2 position in both U+R and Urban markets, Star Plus slipped to No. 7 in U+R and No. 4 in Urban markets.

According to the latest data released by BARC India, Star Bharat has also gained good numbers and was at No. 3 in both U+R and Rural markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 40 (September 30-October 6) of 2017 for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Zee Anmol remained on the top position in the combined markets recording viewership of 786.847 million (last week 661.111 million) Impressions. Colors climbed up to reach No. 2 with 626.274 million (last week 552.131 million) Impressions. Star Bharat too rose to No. 3 spot with 624.082 million (last week 561.015 million) Impressions. Zee TV slipped to No. 4 position with 616.889 million (last week 624.676 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television climbed up to reach No. 5 with 604.669 million (last week 489.266 million) Impressions. Sony Pal was at No. 6 with 546.386 million (last week 518.882 million) Impressions. Star Plus slipped to No. 7 with 507.172 million (last week 566.586 million) Impressions. Rishtey stayed at No. 8 this week with 371.110 million (last week 426.475 million) Impressions. Sony SAB continued to be at No. 9 with 358.913 million (last week 367.321 million) Impressions. Star Utsav re-entered the list at 10 with 345.438 million (last week 352.197 million) Impressions.

Top shows in U+R markets

As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony Entertainment Television became the most watched show in the Hindi Speaking Markets by garnering 11.533 million (last week 8.736 million) Impressions. Zee TV’s spin off fiction Kundali Bhagya slipped to the No. 2 spot with 11.216 million (last week 10.866 million) Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Kaala Teeka garnered 10.028 million Impressions to reach at the third rank. Zee TV’s original show Kumkum Bhagya slipped to No. 4 position with 9.706 million (last week 10.371 million). Colors’ Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi listed at No. 5 with 9.193 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Building on to its non-fiction programming line-up, Sony Entertainment Television ranked as the most watched Hindi GEC in the urban markets clocking 443.498 million (last week 360.545 million) Impressions. Colors stayed put at the second spot with 434.409 million (last week 368.820 million) Impressions. Zee TV too remained at No. 3 garnering 367.169 million (last week 367.046 million) Impressions. Star Plus slipped to stand at No. 4 in the urban markets with 345.802 million (last week 384.979 million) Impressions. Star Bharat climbed to No. 5 with 284.679 million (last week 252.423 million) Impressions. Sony SAB slipped to No. 6 with 257.118 million (last week 258.587 million) Impressions. Zee Anmol came up at No. 7 with 168.055 million (last week 143.325 million) Impressions. Zee TV’s spin off fiction Kundali Bhagya climbed to second position with 6.581 million (last week 6.262 million) Impressions. Colors’ Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi climbed to No. 3 with 6.358 million (last week 5.682 million) Impressions.

Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stands next with 5.802 million (5.892 million) Impressions. Udaan, Colors’ successful fiction which has resurfaced on the channel recently, stood at No. 5 with 5.774 million Impressions.

Top channels in Rural markets

Zee Anmol held on to the top spot with 618.792 million (last week 517.785 million) Impressions. Sony Pal stayed at its No. 2 position garnering 381.567 million (last week 362.521 million) Impressions. Star Bharat slipped to No. 4 spot in the rural markets recording 339.403 million (last week 308.592 million) Impressions. Rishtey slipped to No. 4 in rural markets garnering 275.668 million (last week 320.714 million) Impressions. Star Utsav climbed to No. 5 with 263.901 million (last week 238.758 million) Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 6 with 249.720 million (last week 257.629 million) Impressions. Colors came up at No. 7 with 191.864 million (last week 183.311 million) Impressions. Star Plus too climbed a spot to reach No. 8 with 161.369 million (last week 181.606 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television ranked No. 9 in the rural markets with 161.170 million Impressions. Big Magic remained at No. 10 garnering 153.662 million (last week 151.789 million) Impressions.

Top programmes in Rural markets

Zee Anmol’s Kaala Teeka was the most watched programme in the rural markets garnering 7.439 million Impressions (last week 5.004 million). DD National’s ODI between India and Australia garnered 6.478 million Impressions at No. 2. Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja too was listed in the top five, at No. 3 with 5.935 million (last week 4.967 million) Impressions. Sony Pal’s Baalveer and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood next at No. 4 and 5 garnering 5.813 million (last week 5.436 million) Impressions and 5.576 million Impressions.
