Sony makes sudden changes in programming

The channel has decided to start a new show Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai and halt The Kapil Sharma Show for a brief period

Sony Entertainment Television has decided to make sudden changes in its content line-up. The ongoing property The Kapil Sharma Show (TKSS) has been given a break as Kapil Sharma is not keeping well. The show was being aired at 9pm on weekends. In addition, the channel will bring in a new fiction show, Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, from September 5.

The channel has been struggling with a lot of controversies around its shows. Initially, TKSS was under the audience’s radar when Kapil Sharma, the host of the show, had allegedly misbehaved with his co-stars and half of his cast had abruptly left the show. Two of the recent shoots of his show had to be cancelled because of a no-show by Sharma. Finally, now, the channel has decided to put a short break on the show as Sharma is not keeping well.

An official spokesperson from the channel said, "Kapil has been under the weather for some time now. Due to which we have mutually agreed to take a short break. However once Kapil recovers completely, we will start shooting once again. We value our relationship with Kapil and wish him a speedy recovery.”

The show is expected to be back on track after a month’s time. Till then, another comedy show, The Drama Company, has been shifted to 9pm slot while TKSS’ reruns will be telecast at 8pm.

In yet another sudden development, the channel has decided to launch a fiction property Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai at 10.30pm on September 5. The show, which is based on a love story set in the 1990s, was initially planned to be launched in November.

Recently, one of the channel’s biggest bet Pehredaar Piya Ki had to be pulled off air by the channel due to negative reviews from the audience and intervention from the Broadcast Content Complaints Council (BCCC).

The reason for these sudden programming changes is still unknown. It can be either because of the channel’s dire need to fill in the slot or to accommodate the sponsors which were promised some take-away by the channel.
