New Update
Till December, Sony has new shows lined up for viewers

Sony Entertainment Television has planned to launch almost a completely new line-up of shows between August and December 2017. Among the recent launches are Pehredaar Piya Ki, Ganesha and The Drama Company.

The channel will launch the ninth season of its tent poled property Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) on Monday, August 28. Along with the period drama Porus, which is already being promoted through promos, the channel has planned the launch of Ek Deewana Tha – a supernatural love story in October. KBC has been planned for a tentative 30-35 episodes, after which it will be replaced by two shows in November – Haasil and Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai (YUDKBH). Haasil is a thriller drama, while YUDKBH is a love story set in 1990s.

On the weekends, the channel is already showing promos for the second season of its successful reality show Super Dancer Chapter 2.

With no plans to expand the primetime band, the channel continues to be committed to bringing in original programming from 7pm to 12midnight on weekdays and from 8pm to 12 midnight on weekends. Danish Khan, Business Head, Sony said, “We had planned to bring in variety in our offerings through novel shows and ideas. Though it took up two years, but starting August end with KBC till December, we have about seven show launches and every new show is different than the other.”

One of the most expensive period dramas with budgets touted to be in the range of Rs 500 million, Porus is tentatively set to be launched in November. It is a finite series which will go on for one year. Prithvi Vallabh is another show to be aired starting December. Prithvi Vallabh was the uncle of Raja Bhoj.

To accommodate the new string of shows, the channel has realigned its existing shows. Kuchh Rang Pyaar Ke has recently gone off-air. Beyhadd has been shifted to 8.30 and Pehredaar Piya Ki has shifted to 10.30 following orders from the Broadcast Content Complaints Council (BCCC). On the shift the show, Khan added, “We respect BCCC’s order and we shifted it immediately. But I wish the number of people who reacted would have seen the show, it might have then become the most watched show.”

The new show Vighnaharta Ganesh is airing at 8pm. Beyhadd has about eight weeks of story left, tentatively 35 more episodes to be shot. Then on, KBC will be aired between 9-10.30pm, followed by Pehredaar. At 11pm, Crime Patrol’s fresh episodes will be telecast.
