GEC Watch: Colors topples Star Plus to take top spot in urban markets

Colors also moved ahead of Star Plus in the U+R and rural markets. The channel’s new shows Fear Factor and Mahakali, along with Shakti, an old property, have garnered good numbers

The viewership numbers of all the channels in the Hindi GEC space have increased as per the viewership data of Week 31 (July 29-August 4). As per BARC India data, Colors has topped the urban markets, while Zee Anmol continued to lead the U+R and rural flocks.

Colors gained as much as 50 million Impressions in the U+R markets to topple Star Plus. The shows that have worked well for the channel include its new shows, Fear Factor and Mahakali, along with Shakti.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 31 (July 29-August 4) of 2017 for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Zee Anmol and the sister channel Zee TV remained on the top two positions in the combined markets by garnering 711.757 million Impressions and 644.660 million Impressions, respectively. Colors climbed up to reach the No. 3 spot with an increase of about 50 million to garner 633.197 million Impressions. Star Plus fell to No. 4, despite marginal rise in numbers, with 602.544 million Impressions, while Rishtey garnered 569.263 million Impressions, to stand at No. 5. Sony Pal stayed at No. 6 with 549.648 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television was at No. 7 with 413.025 million Impressions. Sony SAB remained to No. 8 with 393.145 million Impressions. Life OK and Star Utsav trailed at No. 9 and 10 with 370.440 million and 302.552 million Impressions, respectively.

Top shows in U+R markets

As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Rishtey’s Naagin-Season 2 has climbed up to the top spot with 11.750 million Impressions, while Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs dropped to No. 2 with 11.656 million Impressions. Colors’ Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi has clocked 10.415 million Impressions. Zee TV’s spin off fiction Kundali Bhagya has stood at No. 3 in the top shows’ list in the combined markets with 9.919 million Impressions, followed by Kumkum Bhagya with 9.549 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Colors climbed to the top spot, toppling Star Plus. Colors, at No. 1, garnered 429.820 million Impressions. Star Plus lost its urban lead and settled at No. 2 with 411.654 million Impressions. Zee TV slipped to No. 3 position with 381.307 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television is at No. 4 with 295.538 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB that too stayed at No. 5 with 280.299 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 228.601 million Impressions. &TV climbed to No. 7 with 156.925 million Impressions. Sony Pal slipped to No. 8 with 156.037 million Impressions. Zee Anmol climbed to No. 9 position in urban markets with 152.104 million Impressions. Rishtey trailed at No. 10 with 147.210 million Impressions.

Top programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800-2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs topped the most watched programmes’ list with 7.647 million Impressions. Colors’ Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi stayed put at No. 2 with 6.975 million Impressions. Sony SAB’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah clocked 6.282 million Impressions, followed by Colors’ Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and Mahakali Ant hi Aarambh Hai garnered 6.098 million Impressions and 6.087 million Impressions at No. 5.

Top channels in Rural markets

Zee Anmol held on to the top spot with 559.653 million Impressions, while Rishtey too stayed at No. 2 garnering 422.053 million Impressions. Sony Pal stayed on to No. 3 in rural markets with 393.611 million Impressions. Zee TV remained at No. 4 with 263.353 million Impressions. Star Utsav too stayed at No. 5 with 226.655 million Impressions, followed by its elder sibling. Colors climbed to No. 6 with 203.377 million Impressions, while Star Plus slipped by a spot to reach No. 7 with 190.889 million Impressions. Big Magic came in next with 163.652 million Impressions. Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television trailed at No. 9 and No. 10 with 141.839 million Impressions and 117.486 million Impressions.

Top programmes in Rural markets

Rishtey’s Naagin - Season 2 continued to top the list of most watched programmes list by garnering 8.909 million Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja and Kaala Teeka stood at No. 2 and No. 3 with 7.404 million Impressions and 5.386 million Impressions, respectively. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Baalveer stood next, garnering 4.912 million Impressions and 4.881 million Impressions, respectively.
