AETN 18 on June 19 obtained licences from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) for two channels, FYI TV18 HD and History TV18 Tamil, which are set to be launched soon.
The Ministry issued licences to seven more channels in the month of June, taking the total number of operational private television channels to 883. Of them 388 are news channels and 495 are in the non-news category.
Other than these two, Enter10 Television got licences for its Bengali channel Enter10 Bangla and Shandaar Cinema on June 13. Other channels that got licences in June include Prerna from Graphisads and BNB from BnB Entertainment. All these channels are in the non-news space.
In the news genre, TV 1 News 24x7 from Lakshmi Gold Khazaanaa was also cleared by the MIB.
The MIB had given licences to four channels in the month of May.
