Sajan Re Phir Jhooth Mat Bolo is back on SAB with season 2

Season 2 is a fresh take on situational comedy arising simply due to the vice of ‘lying’. The show replaces Chidiyaghar, which moves to the 8 pm slot from 9 pm

SAB, the second rung Hindi general entertainment channel from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), will be launching season two of Sajan Re Phir Jhooth Mat Bolo tonight at 9 pm. The first season of the show Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo (SRJMB) was launched in December 2014 and ran for two years, covering 478 episodes.

SAB, a family entertainment channel which has a sharp skew towards humour and comedy in its content line-up, has always counted SRJMB in its successful shows’ list. Some of the other long-running shows of the channel include names like the still running Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (over 2200 episodes) and Chidiyaghar (close to 1433 episodes).

Chidiyaghar was being aired at the 9 pm slot till May 22 and the show was moved to the 8 pm slot as it took a leap and entered the second phase of its timeline.

Some of the past shows that have ran for longer timeframe on the channel include FIR (1323 episodes from 2006-2015), ‘Gutur Gu’ a silent comedy that ran for three seasons, Lapataganj (1077 episodes over two seasons from 2009-2014) and Baal Veer (1111 episodes from 2012-2016).

Neeraj Vyas, Senior EVP and Head, Channel SAB and MAX cluster of channels, said, “With Sajan Re Phir Jhooth Mat Bolo, we are presenting a fresh take on situational comedy arising simply due to the vice of ‘lying’. The show reveals how the protagonist and other characters get hilariously entangled in a web of lies in an effort to help the son impress his lady love. The erstwhile series, Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo, resonated really well with our audience and we hope they love the new version even more.”

The story of SRJMB revolves around Jaiveer Chopra played by Hussain Kuwajerwala and his family, who are one of the wealthiest in South Mumbai. The Chopra clan is headed by a single father Paramveer played by Tiku Talsania, who lives with his son Jaiveer and daughter Jenice, played by Urmila Tiwari.

History sometimes repeats itself, in this case, just like his father, Jaiveer falls in love with a simpleton woman, Jaya, played by Parvati Vaze, who belongs to a middle-class family. He does not reveal his wealth, status and family heritage and starts getting to know Jaya and make her fall in love with him as simply as possible. For this, he lies to her about being poor and that he works hard by doing odd jobs each day to make ends meet. As luck would have it, Jaya is impressed by his personality and determination but Jaiveer’s grand plan takes a hit when Jaya tells him how she and her family detest the rich.

His one innocuous lie buries him under a mountain of subsequent lies as he cannot risk telling the truth to Jaya for the fear of losing his love. In order to marry Jaya, Jaiveer devises a plan to create a fake poor family out of The Chopras.

This situation is exactly reverse, if one compares this to the storyline of the first season where the male protagonist brings up a fake rich family to keep up the lie to a rich father-in-law.

Vipul D Shah, Chairman and MD Optimystix Entertainment, said, “This show is a beautiful extension of our previous successful show Sajan re Jhooth Mat Bolo. We are very happy to bring the Season 2 of Sajan Re franchise and to further strengthen our relationship with Sony SAB. The cast of the show are known for their power-packed performances and I am sure the viewers will love every bit of the show as much as we enjoyed making it.”
