Republic TV, Cartoon Network HD get licences from MIB

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted six television licences in March 2017, including a news licence for Arnab Goswami’s ARG Outlier Media for its Republic TV.

Turner International bagged a non-news licence for Cartoon Network HD (high definition).

Sony Pictures Network India’s subsidiary Bangla Entertainment got a non-news licence for Sony Aath.

Movements Digital India’s got a non-news licence for Tunes 6 Music while Surya Processed Food grabbed two – a news licence for Surya Samachar and a non-news licence for Surya Sagar Entertainment.

As of March 31, 2017, 1067 private satellite TV channels had been granted licences, of which 179 have been cancelled.

The permitted private satellite television channels in India are 888 – of which 392 channels are news and current affair channels and 496 are non-news.
