GEC Watch: Sony Pal is on top in U+R and rural, Star Plus leads urban

The channel has done phenomenally well in the rural markets with two of its shows Balveer and CID. Zee TV’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs has been listed fourth in the combined markets

In Week 13 of 2017 (March 25 to 31), Sony Pal became a surprise gainer as it climbed to the top spot in the combined U+R markets, pushing Star Plus to No. 2. The channel has done phenomenally well in the rural markets with two of its shows,Balveer and CID.

Meanwhile, Star Plus led the flock in the urban markets, while Sony Pal stayed on top in rural markets. The pecking order of the channels have largely remained the same, though Sony Entertainment Television has moved one notch up in the combined markets, while it left the top 10 list in the rural market.

Zee TV’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs has been listed fourth in the combined markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 13 of 2017 for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Sony Pal has been a surprise winner as it climbed to the No. 1 spot with 702.603 million Impressions, pushing the previous leader of the flock Star Plus to No. 2. Star Plus, at No. 2, garnered 681.474 million Impressions. At No. 3,Colorswitnessed a slight rise in viewership at 638.786 million Impressions. Zee TV, at No. 4, has clocked 550.619 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 5 with 498.807 million Impressions. Zee Anmolis at No. 6 with 483.395 million Impressions. At No. 7, Sony SAB garnered 430.939 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television rose to No. 8 with 425.621 million Impressions, while Star Utsavwent marginally up at No. 9 with 422.858 million Impressions. Life OK was at No. 10 with 390.161 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (urban+rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 2+ Individuals}, Colors’Naagin – Season 2 stayed on top with 12.999 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagyatoo remained at No. 2 with 12.118 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Haiat No. 3 garnered 9.580 million Impressions. Zee TV’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs has entered the list at No. 4 with 9.080 million Impressions. Colors’ Shani stood at No. 5 with 8.725 million Impressions.

Star Plus continued to retain its lead in urban markets with 461.742 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors garnered 431.032 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 3 with 314.073 million Impressions while Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 4 with 294.285 million Impressions. Sony SAB is at No. 5 with 288.189 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 246.983 million Impressions followed bySony Pal which garnered 186.561 million Impressions. At No. 8, &TV garnered 141.510 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 9 with 122.032 million Impressions and Star Utsav took the 10th place with 103.101 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Colors’Naagin- Season 2 led the top programmes list with 7.987 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 2 with 7.009 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai stood at No. 3 with 6.655 million Impressions. At No. 4, Colors’Shanigarnered 6.244 million Impressions. The channel’s Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 5 with 6.216 million Impressions.

Sony Pal continued to lead the rural markets garnering 516.042 million Impressions. Zee Anmol retained second position with 380.436 million Impressions. Rishtey took the third spot with 376.774 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 4 with 319.757 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 5 with 236.545 million Impressions. Star Plus slipped to No. 6 with 219.731 million Impressions. Colors followed at No. 7 with 207.754 million Impressions. At No. 8, Life OK garnered 143.177 million Impressions while Sony SAB followed with 142.749 million Impressions. Big Magic trailed at No. 10 with 142.112 million Impressions.

Sony Pal’s CID topped the rural programmes chart as it garnered 5.576 million Impressions. The channel’s Baalveer stood at No. 2 with 5.382 million Impressions. Rishtey’sNaagin – Season 2 was at No. 3 with 5.281 million Impressions while Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja with 5.119 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 5 with 5.109 million Impressions
