The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued four licences in the month of February. AETN18 Media's History TV18 HD received a non-news uplinking licence for Hindi, English and scheduled Indian languages. MSM Worldwide Factual Media has got two non-news downlinking licences for Sony BBC Earth and Sony BBC Earth HD. Shreya Broadcasting's Hindu Dharmam received a non-news uplinking licence.

The Ministry had issued three licences in January. Star India's subsidiary Asianet Communication has got an uplinking licence for Star Suvarna HD, a non-news Kannada channel. VRL Media's Dighvijay TV has got a news uplinking licence while Parsvnath Medias' Jai Paras TV has got a non-news uplinking licence for all Indian languages.

The master list of permitted satellite television channels includes 892 channels – 391 news and current affairs channels while 501 non-news current affairs channels.
