An evening of creative brainstorming, rock music and networking

The who’s who of the industry graced the event – ‘Think Big: The Power of PSAs’ – put together by BestMediaInfo and New York Festivals. It was an evening of high-level panel discussion, rock music, cocktail and dinner

It was an evening with a difference – a brainstorming session on public service advertisements followed by rock music by advertising professionals-turned-musicians. Advertising and marketing honchos who had turned up in numbers had a great evening as they enjoyed each other’s company at the event ‘Think Big: The Power of PSAs’ presented by BestMediaInfo and New York Festivals at Mumbai’s Hard Rock Café on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.

The evening started with the screening of some of the best PSA campaigns around the globe selected by New York Festivals in a show reel that everybody watched in awe. The high impact campaigns included Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Sweden football striker, showing his support for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) by tattooing names of 50 hungry people on his body to help raise awareness and funds; Human Traffic Signs campaign wherein accident victims stood at major junctions holding signboards; and India’s very own ‘Touch the Pickle’ campaign by Whisper. The campaigns were discussed as the evening unrolled into the cocktail session.

Prominent names who graced the evening included Ashish Bhasin, Chairman and CEO South Asia, Dentsu Aegis Network; Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands; Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors; Srinivasan K Swamy, Chairman and MD, RK Swamy BBDO and Senior Vice-President of IAA; Ramesh Narayan, Global VP, IAA and Chairman, Awards Governing Council for the Abbys; Nisha Singhania and Ramanuj Shastry, Co-founders of Infectious; Ajay Chandwani, Independent Director at Percept; Dhunji Wadia, President, Rediffusion Y&R; Ajay Kakar, CMO, Aditya Birla Group Financial Services; Siddharth Banerjee, Marketing Head, Vodafone India; Paritosh Joshi, ratings and readership expert and former CEO, India TV; Asheesh Malhotra, President, Bates CHI&Partners; Sumanto Chattopadhyay, National Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather; Mitrajit Bhattacharya, CEO & Publisher, Chitralekha Group; Sangeetha Aiyer, VP and Head, Marketing, History TV18; Shavon Barua, ?Managing Partner, PHD Worldwide India, among others.

The show reel was closely followed by a panel discussion in which creative stalwarts KV Sridhar (Pops), Founder, Hyper Collective, Swati Bhattacharya, Chief Creative Officer, FCB Ulka, Michael O’Rourke, President, New York Festivals, Siddharth Banerjee, SVP - Marketing, Vodafone India, and Santosh Padhi, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Taproot Dentsu, brainstormed on the creative power of PSAs, what makes them work and what holds back PSAs from making an impact.

After the panel discussion and tokens of appreciation to each of the speakers, the evening moved on to some fun with electrifying music. The industry folk thoroughly enjoyed the music dished out by ‘Wanted Yesterday’, the live band run by their very own Subhash Kamath, Managing Partner, BBH India and Rajeev Raja, ?Founder & Soundsmith, BrandMusiq, who played the guitar and the flute.

Led by Ramanuj Shastry, guests swayed to the music dished out by the rock band and kept asking for more as the band tried to bring it to a close way past 11 PM. Kamath and Raja even did a jugalbandhi on the flute and guitar! As dinner and cocktails followed, the staff at HRC performed the world famous Hard Rock Café dance. It was one of the most memorable evenings, as they all termed it.
