As part of government's initiative of ease of doing business, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has completely done away with the process of obtaining an “annual renewal” for TV channels in current form. The decision was announced by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu at Economic Editors Conference organised by MIB and Niti Ayog in New Delhi today.
Broadcasters who have been given the permission for uplinking or downlinking can continue their operations by simply paying the annual permission fee upto 60 days before the due date, which by itself will be treated as permission for continuation of a channel for a further period of one year. It is expected that this will provide a major relief for ease of doing business for the permission holding companies of the TV channels and teleports.
“The Ministry is fully committed to the vision of present government and the Prime Minister to promote the ease of doing business and will continue to take more steps in continuation with its stakeholders,” said the minister.
