If you thought that the Pan Bahar controversy with Pierce Brosnan has mellowed down, you were wrong. It has just begun! In the latest development to the Pan Bahar row, Pierce Brosnan has accused Pan Bahar of misleading on product information.

In an exclusive statement to People Magazine, the James Bond actor said that he was 'deeply shocked and saddened' about the events following his controversial participation in the endorsement of Pan Bahar breath freshener, which may include ingredients that cause cancer.

He extends his apology to the consumers of India and said, “As a man who has spent decades championing women's healthcare and environmental protection, I was distressed to learn of Pan Bahar's unauthorised and deceptive use of my image to endorse their range of Pan Masala products. I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one's health.”

“Having endured, in my own personal life, the loss of my first wife and daughter as well as numerous friends to cancer, I am fully committed to supporting women's healthcare and research programs that improve human health and alleviate suffering,” added Brosnan.

It seems that the actor's contract details that he was to advertise a 'breath freshener/tooth whitener,' which wouldn't include an ingredient that turns saliva red. The magazine reported that Brosnan had agreed to advertise a single product only, and that it was presented as 'all-natural containing neither tobacco, supari, nor any other harmful ingredient.'

Brosnan has demanded the company to remove his image from all their products, and assured that he had no knowledge that he was endorsing items that would have a negative or painful reaction in India.

He added that Pan Bahar 'grossly manipulated' media outlets to falsely present him as a brand ambassador for their entire line of products, something he writes is 'in violation of my contract.'

“I shall endeavour to rectify this matter,” the statement concluded. “In the meantime, please accept my sincerest and heartfelt apologies to all whom I have offended.”

As the actor extends his apology to the consumers the brand has so far not reacted to his comments. The ad has been a rage on social media considering the image of the actor. Not only that, adding to the fuel, a media report mentioned that the censor board has banned the ad while that was not the case. A censor board member noticed it and had written to concerned authorities.

A few days back, BestMediaInfo.com had reported about the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) asking for clarifications from Pan Bahar on using a celebrity when it had provided with guidelines for Pan Masala brands on not using a celebrity.
