Week 36 (September 5-September 11) of BARC ratings has thrown up a few surprises in the news genre with a new No. 1 among Hindi news channels and the return of CNN-IBN among the top three English news channels.

According to select data (HSM : NCCS All : 15+ : Individuals : BARC India base - C&S 1Lac+) for the Hindi news genre, Zee News sprang a surprise by not only breaking into the top three, but also taking the top spot with a viewership of 27,109 (ratings in sums of 000s).

Aaj Tak stayed at No. 2 with a gross viewership of 26,709 (ratings in sums of 000s), while ABP News was placed third with a viewership of 26,101 (ratings in sums of 000s). India TV, which had topped the table last week, dropped out of the top 3 in Week 36.

Meanwhile, as per select data (All India : NCCS AB : Males 22+ : Individuals : BARC India base - C&S 1Lac+) for English news channels, Times Now surged ahead of its rivals with a viewership of 511 (ratings in sum of 000s).

NDTV 24x7 lost over 27 TVTs, but remained at the second spot with a viewership of 220 (ratings in sum of 000s).

CNN-IBN returned to the top three after several weeks with a viewership of 165 (rating in sums of 000s).

In the English business news segment, according to select data (All India : NCCS AB : Males 22+ : Individuals : BARC India base - C&S 1Lac+), CNBC TV18's reign continued as the channel bagged a viewership of 280 (ratings in sum of 000s).

ET Now followed with a viewership of 215 (ratings in sum of 000s), while NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime stood third with viewership of 66 (ratings in sum of 000s).

As per select data (HSM : NCCS AB : Males 22+ : Individuals : BARC India base - C&S 1Lac+) for the Hindi business news genre, CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate with a viewership of 901 (ratings in sum of 000s).

Zee Business, CNBC Awaaz's lone competitor, was placed second with a viewership of 720 (ratings in sum of 000s).
