Cricbuzz is the title sponsor for the Sri Lanka vs India 2015 Test Series. This sponsorship marks a major investment by the cricket news and information portal as it looks to build its association with the sport through the Test Series, which will take place between August 12 and September 1.
The 20-day tour includes three Test matches to be played in the cities of Galle and Colombo. The English feed will be shown live and exclusive on Sony Six and Sony Six HD, while the Hindi feed will be on Sony Kix.
Commenting on the development, Pankaj Chhaparwal, CEO, Cricbuzz said?, “We are thrilled with the association which represents a great opportunity towards scaling up our user base and operations. Cricket is the defining sport in capturing consumer interest, and through this engagement we will look to exponentially increase our global visibility and footprint.”
India will be touring Sri Lanka after a gap of five years. The series wasn't part of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) tours and fixtures programme, but one organised between BCCI (Board Of Control For Cricket In India) and Sri Lanka cricket after the latter had agreed to bail out BCCI last year by chipping in for the West Indies, who had left their tour mid-way owing to contract disputes with their board. Sri Lanka Cricket had then sent their full-strength to play five ODIs in India.
As this series was organised outside the ICC's tours and fixtures programme, the bid for the tour took place early this year, where Sony Six bagged the broadcast rights. Taj Television, which holds the broadcast rights for Sri Lanka Cricket, failed in their bid for this particular tour.
In November 2014, Times Internet had acquired a majority stake in Cricbuzz with a vision to leveraging the site and its mobile services in generating an enhanced user experience for cricket.
