Zee Classic raises a toast to the Showman of Hindi Cinema – Raj Kapoor

The channel will telecast seven of the legend's iconic films between May 27 and June 2 daily at 9 pm

Ruddy-cheeked and light-eyed, Raj Kapoor was unmistakably the original 'Showman' of the industry. The winner of two National Awards and a two-time nominee for the prestigious Palme d'Or grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his films 'Awaara' (1951) and 'Boot Polish' (1954), Raj Kapoor is still relevant and being emulated by many young actors of today, including his grandson Ranbir Kapoor.

Zee Classic is paying tribute to the legendary showman with its RK Film Festival, commemorating his 27^th death anniversary. The film festival will showcase handpicked movies from RK Banner starting Wednesday, May 27, 2015 till Tuesday June 2 at 9 pm every night.

'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' aired on May 27. The film, directed by Kapoor, emphasises on the social message that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is depicted with the love saga of Roopa (Zeenat Aman) and Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor).

'Prem Granth' will air on May 28. The film depicts the struggle of a woman named Kajari (Madhuri Dixit) after she is raped and how it affects the relationship with her lover Somen (Rishi Kapoor). This will be followed by 'Bobby', starring Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia on May 29. The movie introduced the genre of teenage romance with a rich-vs-poor clash as a backdrop.

'Heena', starring Rishi Kapoor and Zeba Bakhtiar, will air on June 1. This is the last film by Raj Kapoor and is a classic love story based on Indo-Pak relationship. The RK Film Festival concludes on June 2, the day that marks the Showman's death anniversary, with 'Mera Naam Joker'. The film is about a clown who must make his audience laugh at the cost of his own sorrows.
