Microsoft has announced that it would begin offering advertising inventory on Skype in India. The inventory on Skype in India will be handled exclusively by Zirca Digital Solutions.

Speaking to BestMediaInfo, Sonia Pandey, Partner Sales Lead – India, Advertising and Online, Microsoft, attributed the delay in launching advertising on Skype in India due to some legal issues. “Skype as an engagement platform for people, in terms of sharing their opinions and moments, can be a really powerful tool. So, we have had campaigns (globally) where people have been reached just at the right moment for them to click a selfie or click a picture with a loved one, and share it. So, that's something that is unique on Skype.”

Pandey believes that the growth of advertising on Skype in India would be faster as the application has been available in India for around a decade now.

“People love Skype, which makes it a great platform for any brand looking to reach a large and engaged audience. Skype is also part of Microsoft's unique and connected ecosystem that enables brands to tailor advertising experiences across devices and services. Through Skype, advertisers in India will be able to reach audiences at the right time, with the right information, when they are making decisions with the people they trust the most,” said Neena Dasgupta, Director, Zirca Digital Solutions.

“A Skype session lasts more than 30 minutes on an average. This means greater time spent for the associating brands. Moreover, adding Skype to our existing portfolio of Microsoft products will help us offer a holistic solution to advertisers, who stand to make better ROI on their ad spends,” added Vikas Khanchandani, Director, Zirca Digital Solutions.

Zirca Digital Solutions has begun offering branded options like Conversation Ads, the Connection Hub Ad and Conversation Corridors to give brands access to the Skype community present across PC and mobile. Many of the new formats are standard and consistent with the creative formats used by advertisers on other platforms.
