Mohit Hira, who recently quit as CEO of Hungama Digital Services & Digital Head, JWT India, is joining Open magazine as Chief Executive, a position created for the first time in the magazine. He will assume office from October 20, 2014, it is learnt. Though an official announcement is yet to be made, an internal communication was sent out to the Open team last week.

Hira will also be Publisher of the magazine after the departure of R Rajmohan who has resigned as Publisher. Rajmohan is currently serving his notice period which will run till January.

Open, an English language current affairs weekly, is the flagship brand of Open Media Network, the media venture of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. It was launched in April 2009.

Open, which took a pole position in reporting the Radia Tapes controversy in 2013, has had a rough patch this year. In January, close on the heels of the departure of Political Editor Hartosh Singh Bal, the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Manu Joseph, also quit.

Hira's previous media experience includes working with The Times of India Group in very senior positions including as Director of Times Internet Ltd, where he was the brand custodian for the group's website, www.indiatimes.com, and was responsible for incubation, marketing and usability of its portals.

Essentially, Hira is an advertising creative director turned netvangelist, with a career spanning over two decades with rich and diverse experience across advertising, marketing, journalism and digital media.

He joined JWT in November 2012 as Senior Vice-President and Regional Business Director, and took over as Head of Digital in April 2013 to oversee JWT Group's digital initiatives in addition to his role as the Business Lead on Airtel. Hira was then elevated to CEO of HDS and JWT Digital to ensure seamless integration of the two to offer truly integrated digital solutions to all HDS and JWT clients.

Hira joined JWT from NIIT, where he was President of the B2C global online learning business, www.training.com that he started. He was also the Chief Marketing Officer for their retail individual training businesses and the NIIT University.
