Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh until recently was not connected to the railway network. However, Hindustan, the Hindi daily from Hindustan Times group, ran a campaign, 'Hindustan Aapke Dwar', emphasising the need for rail connectivity for Bulandshahr and through the campaign urged the local MLA to bring the issue to the attention of the Ministry of Railways.
As a result, in the recent Rail Budget 2013-14, the Ministry of Railways has earmarked Rs 59 crore for a new rail line from Bulandshahr to Chola. This project will gain momentum from April 1, 2013 when the land acquisition process begins.
Overjoyed local residents have thanked Hindustan for its efforts by putting up hoardings all around the town congratulating the newspaper.
Benoy Roychowdhury, Executive Director, HT Media Ltd., said, “We are grateful for the support and faith that the people of Bulandshahr have afforded us. The success of this initiative is a testament to the power of people and media working together.”
